I have so many things to say about writing, not just because I've made researches about it, but because I write too; and obviously, the more one writes, the better he becomes. I have a few experiences, and have heard and read about others' too.
Join me in this thrilling ride as I show you magical tips that have improved and developed my writing skills. Mind you, there are many more out there, but trust me, you don't need any more than these for a start.
1. RIGHT USE OF PUNCTUATION MARKS
The right usage of this makes your writing interesting, and will save your work from being ambiguous, even if you use the simplest words. You can do a little study on how to use them, especially the comma, full-stop, colons, and hyphen.

2. KEEP WRITING
When creating your first draft, try not stop to proofread your work. To proofread or edit makes u lose the flavor of your work so soon that it could become old even at that early stage. Mind you, creating and editing are two different stages in creative writing, and shouldn't be done at a time.

Also when doing a long project, a novel, for instance, shut off your internal editor and just write.
Think of your first draft as a complex outline waiting to be expanded upon, and let the words flow. Write the first draft spontaneously. Switch off your internal editor until it is time to review your first draft.

3. WRITE DAILY
Just write! No matter how busy you think you are or blank of ideas, remember you want to develop that writing skill. Mark Twain said, “the secret of getting ahead is getting started.” Devote yourself to write for a minimum of twenty minutes daily. Styles in writing are dynamic, and this is the best way to improve or develop yourself. What you write doesn't have to make sense, just write daily. It will expose you to different available styles of writing.

5. PROOFREAD YOUR WORK CAREFULLY.
Proofread or review word for word with patient in your work, to avoid the lost of interest of your reader. You can as well get an editor to always help you out if you are impatient to always do it. Some people even read out their work aloud, it also helps.

6. KNOW YOU ARE PRONE TO CRITICISM.
For someone to criticize your work means either he/she wants to ridicule you or expect you to produce a better result. In either case, appreciate the critic, and work hard not to let him/her see a loop that could attract that same criticism. Don't you ever get angry!

7. AVOID UNNECESSARY WORDING.
Avoid unnecessary wording, use the appropriate words because your reader could end up being bored of your work. Write like you have just few words to make your point.

9. HAVE A MENTOR
Have and read the works of great writers who you have as mentors for inspiration. If you read them enough, their excellent writing style will rub off on you, and you could even end up writing like them. Maturity in writing will restructure their styles of writing to give you something unique.
YOU ARE what you read (and write!).

10. ADOPTION IS ALLOWED
Don’t shy away from adopting the good habits that other writers use.
Do not worry about the length of the article as long as it conveys the point. Of course, the fewer words you use, the better.
Start the article with a short sentence, not more than 8-10 words.

11. BE FOCUS
It is tempting I must confess here that you could want to digress a little to buttress a point, but see yourself finding it difficult to retrace your step. Being focus on the topic you are writing on will help you a great deal.
12. AVOID LONG SENTENCES
Avoid long sentences. The reason for this is that, long sentences could get boring along the line. Try as much as possible to make them short.

13. HAVE A PLOT
If you’re writing fiction, it’s a great idea to have a plot. It will coordinate your thoughts and add consistency to the text.

14. EDIT YOUR OLDER PIECES
Edit your older articles and pieces. You will notice that great part of it will be crap, and it will allow you to refine your style and avoid mistakes that you used to make.
